Paramedic Salary Data

The median (middle) paramedic salary in the United States is $16.01/hour. This would imply that 50% of paramedics are paid much higher than $16.01 per hour while the other 50% gets less than that. Of course, the rate would still depend on your place of work, your level of education, training programs and work experience. If you get to work in local government the paramedic income is at an average of $17.77 per hour. If you work in the hospital $16.24 per hour while if you are in medical company they earn $16 per hour.

Industries that Pay a Lot

The Amusement and Recreation Industries employ the highest paid paramedics and emergency medical technicians. The average income for a paramedic employed in these companies is around $20 per hour. However, the amusement and recreation industries only make up about 7% of the Paramedic/EMT industry. This means that it is tough to get into their companies and they require extensive work experience.

Colleges, universities and home health care are some of the other top paying industries as well. But then again, these industries are few and can only accommodate a small number of Paramedic/EMT staff.

States that Pay the Highest and Highest Employment Levels

The highest paid state paramedic salary can be found in Washington, D.C., with paramedics making over $20 an hour. Alaska, Hawaii, Oregon and Washington are some of the other states that rank high in the salary scale for paramedics.

The top 5 states when it comes to the number of paramedics employed are Texas, New York, California, Illinois and Pennsylvania. There is a high probability that you would get employed if you stay in one of these above mentioned states.
